Going down the 1:1 device route

Has anybody gone down the route of issuing Windows 10 laptops? If so, what spec/price and what issues have you had?

I know a primary school in our trust (via governor, not employee) has gone down this route recently. The possibility of doing the same at our school is a possibility. Being so operational, I've had little opportunity to influence direction. I would preferred they at least looked at chromebooks and GSuite and then accepted the decision. But, as I have seen so much in education, the mindset of sticking with what's known, for people to stay in their siloed view of the world is frustrating. I do believe lack of training or researching opportunities, especially for IT support staff does nothing to help. I will see if I can organise a 'governor' visit to the school and see how well it is running in practice. Fortunately the CEO is open minded and is likely to be happy for me to have a look. If it happens, I'll report back.

The college down the road from me have been 1 2 1 Chromebooks for about 4 years now and fully G Suite since 2009 ish. I don't work at the school but believe it works really well for them.

Problem is very few web apps are going to be free, because every time you use them you're costing the owners money, whereas there's 1000 free Windows/Linux apps from FreeCAD to Blender to OpenShot to GIMP
