[ipad] Managed iPads keeps asking for iCloud password

We have around 30 managed iPads via Mosyle, recently been made aware that they keep popping up asking for the iCloud password, if you enter it it comes back in about a week or so.

 

All the iPads are signed in with the apple ID but are locked down so students can't access it, i've had a quick look at everything under iCloud is unticked, the main reason it is on is for Find my iPad.

 

Any ideas whats causing it to do this? Not done it before, does it on iOS 13 and 12

How are you deploying the apps? Are you using VPP device assigned licenses or are you using user licenses? There should be no need to use an iCloud account these days with your setup. You can put a device in lost most via your MDM. Do you download apps from the app store? Maybe they're trying to update.

 

I would change your setup and used shared iPad mode if possible. So students have to sign into the iPad as themselves.

We are using VPP Device assigned, The only reason i have iCloud logged in is for Find my iPad. We have no apps deployed via the app store i moved them all across last year.

 

I think making it so students have to sign in themselves is not worth it for what they are used for, only 18 of them are used regularly. The sole reason for having find my iPad on is due to being able to do the pinging noise! We had a student couple years back nick one and was able to find it thanks to the pinging, don't really want to lose that feature. All iPads are shared iPads and not 1-to-1.

Are these devices before iOS 11? Since I believe since 11 you can actually monitor the location without an iCloud account using an MDM.

Yes as others have said, we no longer use an Apple ID on the iPads due to the reasons you mention above. All applications are purchased through VPP and pushed via the MDM, we can also locate and put the device in lost mode from the MDM and therefore don't need the Apple ID.

We have the paid version of Mosyle, i can do lost mode but can't see the option to make it ping!

Ignore me i found the option! The problem was i was testing on an iOS 9.3.5 device (Old testing one), when i tested on an iOS 12 device it had the option.
