VNC to Mirror Teachers PC

Afternoon all,

 

I have been asked to roll out VNC so a few visually impared students can use iPads to see the teachers machine.

 

I am thinking, Ultra VNC is the way to go. I'm struggling on foreseeing how i roll this out.

 

• Group Policy the server version to every PC
  
• Do i create a config file to push on install with a generic password for all machines?
  
• How does the student view the machines, on the viewer app. Does it show all the machines hostnames automatically and the students just pick the room?

We are looking at something similar, also using VNC.

 

We are currently trying to figure out if our staff will be ready for watching for/guarding against GDPR breaches when broadcasting their screens.

 

I am not confident, so we haven't made much progress on this.

I can't speak to UltraVNC but I've used the desktop and android versions of RealVNC for a while without any issues.

Real VNC has a nice GUI and is super easy to set up.

On the desktop version you can export a config file with your connections. I can't see a setting for this on the mobile (android) app, but you just have to know the PC name to connect and once you've done it once it's save in the app.

 

I imagine Ultra works in a pretty similar way.

 

Just make sure they have "interact" turned off otherwise they can control the teacher's PC.

We use VNC Viewer for visually impaired students.

 

They mirror the Teachers machine on the iPad, making sure view only, not controllable.

How do you control what PC the students connect too? I'm worried they could potentially view a staffs computer in a different room. Do you have all the passwords the same or have staff set their own passwords on a weekly basis?

You can set it so the teacher has to authorise the viewing request.

Take a look at AB Tutor or LanSchool. They are both paid for solutions but are very capable. LanSchool is probably a more feature-rich solution. Teachers can control the target PC or Tablet and lock them down, force view of there screen or another screen. Our teaching staff swear by it.
