Office Apps on Shared iPads

Does anyone here have experience with using Office apps (Word, Excel, OneDrive, SharePoint etc) on shared iPads? We have multiple sets which are shared between classrooms and we have some success with older years with remembering to login/log out correctly but with the lower years it is more of a struggle and a lot of time is lost simply trying to get them to login. Users have unique O365 accounts but I have wondered about generic accounts for iPads just for ease of use. I'm curious to see what others are using in their setup amd how they are using them effectively (as possible!)

 

We have Office 365 and Lightspeed MDM but will be heading to InTune later on this year.

If you mean Apple "Shared iPad" then the first point to make is Intune does not support Shared iPad...or Apple Classroom.

If you really need the Office Apps signed in then create a generic account and have the Apps signed into that one. Otherwise we haven't deployed ANY of the Office / G Suite Apps to shared iPads due to the risk of multiple users signing in and being left signed in. One of the draw backs of using shared iPads in a school environment.

I had a feeling this might be the only other way of doing it. From what I gather from the teachers they want to be able to access the work of the students so it was either this or log them in individually and use Class Notebook in OneNote but then we have the same issue of students not logging out.

 

If only Lightspeed gave you an option to force Safari to clear it's cache/cookies on each use!

What age are the students / level of IT literacy? Could you have a generic account signed into the Office Apps, then get the students to share their work with their teachers via OneDrive once finished? The problem is the students will either need to enter their name within the document / file name, or include their name in the message field when sharing via OneDrive, otherwise teachers will just see it as the generic account sharing a file with them with no idea which student completed the work.

We have a generic account that signs in to them, just to be aware it only supports up to 5 devices per account, OK for us only really have 10 that are used for Office.

 

We used to tell students to sign in with their own while doing work but obviously they never logged out so caused no end of issues

You could use Safari in private mode, there is no cached data if you are accessing One Drive from the browser,

 

....or

 

You could always use Seesaw, does not require a login but uses a QR code extremely Primary student friendly, students complete assignments on iPads then share via Seesaw leaving the teacher to upload assignments into One Drive shares.
