Boredguy Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Once they leave, their network account is removed which in turn disables their 365 account and deletes it. We can restore it for up to 30 days if required, but in over 20 years the number of times a leaver has needed a file can be counted on 1 hand
TechMonkey Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 I re-found the Synology have an M365 backup free as part of their devices, so if you have a Synology device, and have space, you can back up to site for free. 1
psydii Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 We move leavers to the free A1 licences until such time they hit the end of our retention period (typically 2 years for students), then they get unlicensed.

Sometimes they ask for specific pieces of coursework, mostly Computing students. Staff we keep for 12 months, as I would prefer to do that and then look for a specific file/folder for their replacement, rather than pass their entire MyDocs over to their replacement/line manager (although we do tell people this could happen and to remove all personal files and emails before leaving)
Boredguy Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 any of the Y12s that come back have to have a new account anyway since they are mainly taught at one of the other schools in the MAT
mavhc Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 And the final IT lesson of your school life is: how to transfer your files to your own account

I finally got around to testing this and I must say its fantastic. So easy to use and just set and forget. It even has a instant backup mode which is very cool. Certainly gives me a little more peace of mind having our main Sharepoint staff file share backed up now.
AnimatedCarrots Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I just started trialing this today, and I’m amazed at how affordable it is compared to other competitors. I can’t believe it doesn’t get more attention! Most people seem to default to Redstorr, Veeam, or Synology. While those options are great, their prices are outrageously high especially for schools. Thanks for the suggestion!
loxford01 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I would recommend looking at this https://synaas.uk/ Hosted Synology Backup
