gaz003 Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 is there a way of mapping shared drives within google drive as a windows drive for users when they log on to the network (same way they see the server shares stored locally)
kingoranks Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Try Google stream but you need a decent machine.
TwistedHelixis Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Download and install Google File Stream. Maps a drive that links to both Google drive and Shared drives.

TwistedHelixis Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Runs fine on all the old machines I have installed it on.
gaz003 Posted January 24, 2020 Author Posted January 24, 2020 Thank you for your reply, its very helpful. I can see it working great for the power users in the admin offices. How would I get this to work with all the students and staff without installing locally on each pc? so currently all our data is local - mapped drives from the server through group policy. If we move the data to the cloud I still would like to map drives for students. Has anyone done this and can advise?
LeMarchand Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 We install via a script with the --silent switch. This installs as "G" by default (so should be spare?) but users need to log in manually on first use, IIRC. There may be a way to automate this, but it's only the staff at a Primary School so they have to do it manually. Then, as there's a drive letter, I guess you could use Group Policy to make that the default location for the appropriate groups.
kingoranks Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 @timbo343 a decent machine is needed to avoid syncing issue. our hardware are pretty old, different teachers with different issues, syncing taking for ever, CPU usage etc.
