Door readers emergency override.

Hi All,

 

Our current set of students seem to think its their right to press the emergency override button on the security doors. We have Paxton door locks and cards.

 

Do any schools have a solution/work around to avoid this happening?

 

I know disciplining the students should be the answer, but that doesn't seem to be the answer here.

 

I know they have to be in a visible place (too visible), and we already have the plastic covers you need to lift then press to try and discourage, but doesn't discourage enough.

 

Anyone with any advice please feel free to send, we are at the point of trying anything, without disabling the buttons altogether of course...

CCTV on the doors to catch who's doing it? Same-day detention for any offenders?

We fitted the sounder covers so when they lift it to push the button is sets an alarm off and it seems to have done the trick.

There is the alarm when lifted option but do you have to have the green break glass points if they are already wired into the alarm so open when that goes off?

Yes, just in case the interlock between the fire panel and the doors doesn't work.

We have some triple pole emergency exit buttons. They release the door, sound the alarm (With flashing lights) but most importantly, trigger an input on the Paxton which then runs a rule to email Site team & Pastoral team.

 

We also have readers on both in and out of external doors. We then use a time rule to email Pastoral staff if student leaves during lessons. We designed this system to meet safeguarding requirements after doing a risk assessment. We don't have a fenced site.
