hardtailstar Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Had the email below on Tuesday and they followed up today. Its a scam as it was sent to one of our emails on the School website that is just for homework. Also im sure BETT dont give out attendee lists!
StevieM Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Also im sure BETT dont give out attendee lists! They probably do to exhibitors, unless the attendee has ticked a box somewhere to opt out. 1
Garacesh Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 I'd imagine maybe your email has made its way onto the wrong list and they think you're an exhibitor.. If it weren't for that email address.. Bit suspish. mmlogitech.a2hosted.com does exist as a valid domain, but all you get is the a2hosted default landing page, so I'd guess it's only got an e-mail server set up on it. Which again, comes across to me as a bit suspish. 1
Net-Ctrl Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 We get bombarded with these emails a lot. To the very best of my knowledge, BETT do not sell on any of their attendee data to anyone. 1
PotNoodleTech Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Report it to BETT and if no response / action is taken report it to the ICO as a possible data breech. 2

The email is only on the website so students/parents can email about homework. We dont advertise it elsewhere. Unless its been pass on by a parent/student! - - - Updated - - - Report it to BETT and if no response / action is taken report it to the ICO as a possible data breech. In the process of finding an email.
StevieM Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 I've just looked at the registration page for BETT and it has a tick box 'Let people know I'm going to the event'. This gives us permission to post on your social profile when you've registered...This also gives us permission to display you in the "Who's-In" view for the event and e-mail notifications. (My emphasis) If this is a scam, it is possible that the scammers have got hold of a legitimate email to exhibitors and are passing it on as their own.

I havent even signed up for Bett as ive never been able to go. Hoping for next year! but will be signing up nearer time
StevieM Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 I was just pointing out that it looks like BETT does give out information about attendees.
Dos_Box Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 We are registered as an exhibitor and I have not seen any such emails, and TBH, I haven't seen any like that in previous years either. I would take that screenshot and send it to the BETT organisers so they can be aware of any scams possibly being undertaken in their name. 2

Just about to send it.
hardtailstar Posted November 22, 2019 Author Posted November 22, 2019 This scam is persistent! Third email this week with a read receipt! @Dos_Box do you have a contact you could PM as I havent had a reply from the email I sent yesterday.
StevieM Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 ...I havent had a reply from the email I sent yesterday. Perhaps a post with the offending email on one or more of their social media accounts may elicit a speedier response. 1

Not got a PM, but can forward the screengrab to our account manager there to be passed on. They may already be aware of it, but it would be best to ensure they actually are. 1

VeryPC Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 We've been getting them from 'Alesha Dixon'. Seems she's branching out from being a pop star and Britain's Got Talent Judge... 2
