HFloyd Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 Morning all, We're looking at purchasing a few small printers for our classrooms, we have a few Richo printers but had allot of issues with them. Looking to replace them with high mono laser printers, of course something that is cheap to run, and toner that works and won't cost a bomb! If anyone can point me in the right direction? Ta!
HTCPCP Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 (edited) Word of warning - having printers in every room will result in "have printer, will print" mentality. We did it for a teacher who was in a mobile so they wouldnt have to keep going outside to get printing, and the level of printing went through the roof, and everything went through it (and extra) because it was there. We do however have a handful of HP M254dw and M281FDW printers in some of our centres, and no problems so far. Edited November 25, 2019 by HTCPCP

You ideally want to be doing the opposite of this, having classroom printers will increase printing costs and the time you take to support them. We took out all of the printers in our Junior School classrooms over the Summer, have had no complaints. 1

No problems with ours, been using them for a couple of years. Good reviews. No drums to replace. You can get 5K cartridges for them. You can also clone the settings from one to another if you get a few.

Unless there are really good reasons, which there are a few, try and steer the school towards fewer shared big machines. MFDs or proper shared printers. It will cut your costs, the amount of inventory you have to keep and your time. My experience is there will always be complaints but at least you can point to the savings and efficiencies.

I was just meaning as few select classrooms, such as IT rooms. I'm not out of my mind wanting printers in all rooms!! Some good options here though, will have to look further into what you have all posted.
