We're getting far too many (say 10 or more) registers per day where the attendance officer is emailing teachers that haven't done their lesson register, but the teacher is adamant that they have done it, and saved it.

It's too many staff, and too many reliable staff (including my IT Technicians daughter, new out of Uni), to be a case of forgetfulness or not remembering to save. Some are becoming repeat offenders, and these are quite possibly the less reliable ones, but others are just random.

When the teacher goes into the register, it is all blanked out, just like the attendance officer says - yet they've definitely marked the class present and saved it earlier in the lesson.

Has anyone else seen or experienced this that can suggest anything before I report it to Capita. I've a horrible feeling they're going to want our database and come back to me sometime after Christmas with an answer.

We have an issue at the moment whereby census has picked up missing marks yet any report we run shows no missing mark!

Capita are looking at it but not holding my breath as they said an N mark counts as a missing mark? Surely we are not being stupid!?

In regards to the missing marks for Census, I have seen this issue before in my previous job as a SIMS consultant, I seem to remember that you can tease out the missing marks by changing the type of group you search by, if you have searched by selecting all year groups try choosing the whole school group type instead. We've had this over the last fortnight or so actually. It's been happening to the same 3-4 teachers, they've reliable teachers that have also started getting their classes to witness them clicking the save button as they're getting annoyed at all our messages about them not saving registers.

I'm drawing a blank though, I don't think it's the link between SIMS and the SQL database as usually it crashes when that link goes down. I've tried reinstalling SIMS via Solus on the machines of the staff it's happened to and that made no difference. Could it be something from the latest update?

Excellent!

Are you on Autumn release (7.190 from memory?)

We’re still on Summer (7.188 from memory)

So if you are on latest, it proves it’s not been fixed.

I’ll log a call today and post my case ID. Can you let me know your case ID then engineers can cross-reference our tickets.

We're still on Summer 7.188, I only got the email about the Autumn release about an hour ago actually (we're international so it may have been a delayed release for us). I've logged it with Capita now, Ticket Number: 1911-3983726

I usually don't rush to update SIMS, in case there are any issues with the update that a patch will be needed for later. If they say it'll fix it though I'm happy to rush it through over the weekend

*edit* not seeing anything in the release notes about this issue, so that may not be a fix

This is all I've had from Capita so far:

This issue is often caused because there is an extra child on the register in the tables that doesn't show in the front end of the database (either because they still have curriculum or group memberships to a reg group after their date of leaving or before their date of arrival).

To find the student causing the issue, go to Focus | Person | Staff, search for the member of staff that has the affected group and open their record, then choose Staff Groups from the Links Panel on the right hand side of the screen. Click on the group that is showing on the Missing Registers Notification. This will show you a list of the students - if you see a child with brackets around their reg group then that is the one causing the problem. If not then open the teachers register and look for students appearing in Personnel but not on the register.

Once you have the child you can look at the curriculum assignments or reg group memberships that this child has to the group and fix the dates which are outside of their 'on roll' dates.

If the student doesn't have any memberships to this class then please run validate memberships by going to Tools | Validate memberships.

Didn't help in my case, maybe it will for you?

We don't have that issue but try getting another member of staff with same permissions to do the register from their SIMS. As in Teacher A doesn't do the register but Teacher B logs into SIMS as Teacher B on Teacher B laptop/computer and selects that register and marks it. If that works then it's most likely to be the user account being the issue but it's strange that you've got about 10 doing it

I've found that our senior leadership team suffered from it more than most - it resolves itself when we log them out of SIMS on all but the computer they are using to take the register.

Certainly worth a try.

Wild guess: Is it people who's left SIMS running, put their laptop into standby, taken it home, come back, opened it again, excepted everything to reconnect without reloading?
