Office 365 AD Sync

We had Office 365 set-up and syncing with AD on our old server. When we moved over to a new server and ran the sync tool on there, some accounts didn't sync properly. We are using the same domain and username format.

 

There is a problem with one account that I'm not sure the best way to solve. This is account is an Office 365 admin account.

 

the old account is there containing all of the users files, and their old sign in details (so is synced from the old server which is turned off)

 

A new account was created in the format ​adusername​[email protected]

 

I'm thinking that the easiest thing to do is this:

 

1) Download all of their files.

 

2) remove admin rights

 

3) Delete the account

 

Once I have done that, how can I force the sync tool to recreate the account in the correct format of [email protected] ?

 

Or is there a better way of doing this full stop?

If you perform 1, 2 & 3 and then create a new AD account, provided it's in a sync OU it should sync up and become available. You can then login directly or use the OneDrive tab in the Admin console to restore all the files and give it admin rights.

Thanks Martin. I have the account already created in AD. However it is syncing to @DomAin.onmicrosoft.com in O365, and I want it to sync to @DomAin.com

 

Do you think I'd need to delete the account in AD recreate to force it to sync to @DomAin.com ?

Did you set the correct domain in AD, if you have a choice? We have two domains and need to select the correct one for external use.

 

I thought the onmicrosoft.com accounts are only created for master admin accounts not in your AD?

Make sure you have the UPN suffix selected correctly in AD. If you have this set to a domain that isn’t verified in O365 (e.g. an internal default domain suffix) you end up with the onmicrosoft account in O365.
