Is anyone successfully running Bromcom Pathways with Mandatory / Roaming profiles for staff?

I've had to send the following to Bromcom to explain what the situation is for us:

Mandatory profiles are slightly different to Roaming profiles where the mandatory profile is removed at logoff / shutdown to prevent the C: of the computer becoming full of cached copies of profiles. Roaming profiles are copied back to the profile store however only the ROAMING folder of the local profile is copied back, the LOCAL folder where Pathways is installed to is not copied back to the profile store.

The only way around this is for users to use Local Profiles or stop the local profile from being deleted however this then can lead to cached local profiles being created and cause multiple copies of cached profiles to be created taking up storage space on the local drive.

I have tried copying the APPS folder from the user's Local Profile to the Mandatory Profile however the application does not remain installed meaning staff members still have to re-install the APP, will get a Pathways icon on their desktop and have to enter the bromcom username, password, URL, tick "use cloud service" and enter the school ID. As we push all our clients through the Smoothwall Proxy service, they will have to complete the Proxy Settings form too every time they've logged on to the computer and want to use pathways.

This APP cannot be used in our environment unless there is a way for the APP to be installed to C:\program files and the settings such as URL, school ID and proxy settings can be saved within the application that is sat within Program Files or on the local C: rather than the user's appdata. This would mean the details would not have to be inputted each time a user logs in to the machine. As an idea, the APP could "check-in" against the cloud system on where it pulls the install files from to install the application everytime it is run to see if there is an update.

Bromcom need to remember that schools do prevent users both staff and students from installing applications on devices.

Pathways is still a thing?

I thought you could administer Behaviour from within the MIS now

It would seem so.

Bromcom insist on using it for automation such as if a student has 5 or more sanctions it will automatically notify the parents.

The issue is the software only installs to the local appdata folder.

The work around i have come to accept is to make these users (only 4) have local profiles, they only use their office machines so shouldn't be too hard to manage.

Hi timbo343,

Unfortunately, this is a limitation of "ClickOnce apps". This limitation comes from Microsoft - a recent Microsoft article states “As of latest .NET Framework you could not run ClickOnce apps with mandatory profiles.”

Until we convert this into the web version (which we are in the process of doing now), the only choice you have is for users to use Local Profiles, as you are already planning to do for your four users, or prevent the profile being deleted.

We will obviously update all customers when the situation changes.

I hope that's helpful, let us know if you need anything else from us :)
