[ipad] Locked iPad

New to the school and I found an iPad at the back of the store cupboard.

 

Now our drama teacher wants it, sadly it's locked. No one knows the code and the Tech before me set it up on a teacher's account that no longer exists. I tried recreating the account and "forgot my password" but it wasn't recongised

 

With no mangement software I finally tried a full restore via iTunes, but it's still locked down tight. I suspect Find my iPhone has been activated, but I don't have any way of confirming it.

 

Anyone got a workaround, or is it hopeless?

If the iPad has activation lock enabled, (you will see this on the screen requesting the Apple ID email address and password) then the only course of action is to get a copy of the proof of purchased or invoice and contact Apple to prove you own this iPad who can then unlock it for you.

Like I said I'm new and this thing was found in the back of storage. The school's changed it's name since it was bought and being new I have no idea exactly how old it really is!

Lightning port or 30 pin? If 30 pin, write it off entirely. Some of the early Lightning stuff still has a use, but it does sound like you've been through the steps that should work.

You can get it unlocked via Apple, as long as you have the proof of purchase. Apparently any invoice of an iPad of the same generation will do, as invoices don't contain the serial number of a specific device, only the model number. That's how we managed to unlock an iPad that we weren't able to unlock. Edited September 26, 2019 by CHiLL
