ICT Direct - Autumn Reprice and Product Update

Good afternoon all.

 

Just a quick message to you all today about some changes we've got going on at the moment.

 

Pricing

 

Firstly, if you take a look around our website right now, you might notice that prices have dropped across pretty much our whole range of PCs.

We've had a drop in the cost of 4th generation and older hardware, partly because we are now seeing more machines with DDR4 hitting the market, and partly because the volume of these units coming out of America has significantly increased.

 

You'll find that our HP range has come down drastically, with a HP 800 G1 SFF with i5, 8GB RAM & 120GB SSD now down to just £170 per unit. Dell and Lenovo machines have had a smaller price drop, this reflects the trend in the buyers market, with 3rd generation Dell units costing us similar to a 4th Gen HP and 4th Gen units still commanding a pretty high price.

 

Another element that has helped with our reduction in prices is that we have now stopped providing a new keyboard & mouse with our PCs as standard. Over the summer period, less than 50% of PCs we shipped did so with a set of peripherals, with more customers asking for a cheaper base unit cost in exchange for not taking any.

We have decided to make this a standard feature of our PCs now. You can still purchase a discounted, brand new business class set to go with your PC. I have gone through our web products and added this as a configurable option to all our desktops.

 

New Products

 

We've also added some new products to the website in the past few weeks. You'll now be able to find the powerful HP ProDesk 600 G2 SFF with DDR4 & 6th Gen Core i5 in amongst our range of Small Form Factor PCs. There's also the Dell Optiplex 9020, which we have sold occasionally when available, but we now have sufficient stock to justify a full-time place on the website.

The Death of the USDT

 

The HP Ultra Small Desktop has been a mainstay of business PCs for years now, providing a powerful PC in a small footprint that you can easily convert into an all in one. However, the 800 G1 USDT will be the last of this venerable line. HP introduced the 800 G1 Desktop Mini (Now available on our site) at the same time and chose to continue this over the USDT. We are looking to ensure a strong supply of the 800 G2 Desktop Mini as we are aware how popular these smaller units are.

Are you getting in any line of All-In-One (AIO) units in at all?

 

You've got the Refurbished HP ProOne 600 G1 All In One 21.5", Core i3 listed but this seems to be the only one, not any i5's like previously?

 

Also on the link, Refurbished HP ProOne 600 G1 All In One 21.5", Core i3 - ICT Direct at the bottom for the spec, it's a dead link.

I would recommend using a contraption that allows you to mount a monitor to the side of an SFF PC - I can't recall what they're actually called at the moment, but I'll try to find a link tomorrow.

 

They allow for the compact footprint of an AIO with the flexibility to swap components around. Pretty sure they work with things like the HP 800 G1/G2.

They allow for the compact footprint of an AIO with the flexibility to swap components around. Pretty sure they work with things like the HP 800 G1/G2.

 

Got shown some similar units to those from Stone. Just after a couple of neatish units for our staff room.

I've got a small number of i5 AIO units available. If you want to PM me ideal spec and qty, I'll see what I can do for you

However, when they're gone we're likely going to be stopping selling these units in general when we're out of stock

We did a huge deal for over 400 of the 800 G1 i5 units over the summer and the attrition rate of A Grades to B Grades was awful. We ended up having to buy nearly 800 units to make sure we could get enough A Grade units to fulfil the order.

That is unfortunately too high to maintain and is in part due to the fact that a couple of small screen blemishes will essentially write off a perfectly serviceable PC.

Now if our suppliers could learn how to ship these safely on a pallet then we'd be able to continue. Should this change I'll be sure to post on the forum to let you all know

I've got several options for these. Not mounted on the side of the PC as such, but we've got HP Mini and USDT stands that we can stick a lovely 23" widescreen onto and hang a nice PC off of the back. These are great for the classroom and tend to be both more economical and easier for techs to service than the full-blown all in ones.

Likewise, I've also got some lovely Dell SFF stands that take an Optiplex on the back and a Dell screen on the front.
