mrstrong Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 (edited) Hi, I've had a call about setting up some old ipads that are in a "bit of a mess". Sounds like they are ipad 2's. There's only 6 and I don't think they have a mac in the school. What are my options regards setting them up? I was thinking maybe just factory reset them and sign in with a single apple id on all 6? Or can itunes on a PC be used to help me manage them in some way? E.g. if they want some restrictions on the devices ? (PS I'm doing this as a "favour" so I want a solution that I can just hand over to them to manage going forward) Edited September 20, 2019 by mrstrong
RLR Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 You've not got many options really if you don't have an MDM or Mac on site. The only way you can set them up is as you say although I think signing into the same Apple ID on 6 devices is not recommended (if purchasing apps).
TLARWise Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Free Mosyle MDM account (https://manager.mosyle.com/)
1TF0rward Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Comodo MDM (itarian now) is free and got quite a few features with very good support.
mrstrong Posted September 20, 2019 Author Posted September 20, 2019 cheers, those mdms look interesting but from a quick read appears you really should supervise but without a Mac thats not possible unless I misunderstood ?
Foresthippy Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 You can also use Apple Device Enrollment Program to supervise devices without configurator
Brimstone Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 You use Apple School Manager now to do DEP... https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/apple-school-manager/welcome/web
mrstrong Posted September 23, 2019 Author Posted September 23, 2019 You use Apple School Manager now to do DEP... https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/apple-school-manager/welcome/web Mmm looks like you still need a mac with apple configurator to add devices to apple school manager ? I think i'm going to have to go with the KISS principle as I only have an afternoon to get all this sorted.
