Hi,

Does anyone have a solution to force google safe search on a 2003 network with XP Pro workstations?

Google images is a nightmare (but useful too!)

Thanks

You'll need a proxy that does url rewriting on google search urls, the simplest solution would be to use squid cache as your proxy and write a simple redirector in perl that appends &safe=vss to the search url (you could use squidguard to do this, but it's a bit overkill if all you want to do is rewrite urls). Alternatively, if you're stuck with ISA like I am, grab a copy of visual c++ express and the ISA SDK and write yourself an ISAPI filter that rewrites the urls.

Hi,

We have the same problem in our county and the solution they came up with is the following.

Create a block for the google page which switches between safe and open searching then slowly but surely set all workstations to safe. The kids can't then switch off the safe option.

BTW we used WebSense to do this and now we use Bloxx.

Cheers

Also as a alternative to google images, picsearch.com is very good and we generally have had no issues with it.

We actually block google image search here.

Our filter uses URL rewriting to force safesearch on google & other search engines.

I can't find that particular setting (I could have sworn that I saw a 'force safe search' tick box once but I can't see it now).

Could you elaborate please?

Sorry to bring up an old topic, I know everyone hates doing it.

One holiday I set all the machines to safe then used the RBC filter to block the preference page.

If you have hundreds of computers, wouldn't that take forever?!

Is there a safesearch search bar we can put on out intranet page? We've tried a couple but they never worked so we deleted them.

I've got ISA 2006 and need to find a solution to stop the kids disabling safesearch.

Ideally I'd like to enforce strict (or very strict) searches only. I can't find a way of appending &safe=vss to the URLs in ISA.

Is yours written for (or compatible with) ISA 2006? If so, would you be able to share it with us?

Pretty please?

With cherries on top???

Please could someone share the code / dll file with me?

The good people at microsoft have removed the ISAPI functions from Visual Studio :(
