Reduce size of Server 2008 R2 VHDX

I'm currently cleaning up our SAN as we're getting a bit low on storage space and I'm trying to reduce the size of my Server 2008 R2 print server vhdx.

 

Currently we have 75Gb in use however the vhdx is at 500Gb. I've defragged the disk and then compacted the vhdx via the HyperV manager, however this doesn't seem to have made any difference.

 

This is the procedure I've used on our other Servers and if worked just fine

 

What am I doing wrong?

 

*I realise that 2008 R2 is nearly eol, we have the upgrade scheduled for October half term

As this issue is with your print server, do you run PaperCut, or similar?

 

PaperCut can store images of what was printed ready to be re-printed if required (Print Archive).

 

The collected images could take a significant amount of space. Ours is currently using 127.3 GB.

 

 

If you do use PaperCut, and you do have this feature enabled you could save space by changing some options for some or all printers.

We do have PaperCut, however disk usage within Windows is reported at 75Gb in use. The VHDX however is roughly 500Gb
