Plusnet hub one replacement

Hi all,

 

Hope you are well.

 

I have Plusnet 30/10 Fibre connection with a Plusnet Hub One. I find the router very restrictive and the wireless weak. Can anyone recommend a good replacement VDSL2 modem-router? I can afford up to about £60.

Can you turn the wireless features etc off in this router? Then just literally use it as the router and get your own access points etc? I know with Virgin you can apparently put the hub into modem-only mode and then use your own equipment if you want.

 

I've always used my own router with my broadband (not Virgin) and was surprised the last time I asked IT colleagues, I was the only one to do so. Everyone else used the ISP-provided router/modem.

I've got a TP-Link router myself for the best part of 5x years and it's mostly pretty rock-solid.

A second hand vigor 2860n from ebay might do the trick? Obviously we dont know what your home is like.

 

I have one of the 2860Ns connected to an old Ruckus 7363 too for areas it cannot reach like into the garden.

I do like TP-LINK and was looking at something like the TP-Link ARCHER AC1200.

User interface isn't the best out there but good enough. Still going for the max speed I can get from BT and good enough until it breaks or needs replacing. One reason I brought this one was for the guest wifi network.

Thanks for everyones help. Managed to get a TP-Link AC1200 VR400 for quite a good price, so will set that up this weekend.

btw I've worked with this router a lot (PlusNet one) I have one for testing here at work and one at home. The Wi-Fi and ethernet are firewalled from each other (even when it is disabled) this stops file sharing SMB over Wi-Fi dead and you can't do a thing about it! It also stopped my unify security cameras from connecting to the unify NVR.

It is very much evil. Will be ditching Plusnet as well when my contract expires I have had price increase, after price increase since I started and it has gone silly now.
