Sanako Study 100 flooding network

When sharing a teachers screen using sanako study 100 fragmented UDP and IP packets are sent out from port 2211 to port 6112.

As you can see the source IP is correct and the destination IP is not. And the same happens with IP :-

These occur constantly untill screen sharing is disabled and floods the whole network. do other people who use sanako software also have this problem. We thought it may be one of our switches in our room, but we tryed it in other it rooms and its the same problem

As far as I am aware yes, but I dont see how multicast can cause the DoS on the rest of the network other than the software being pants and not adressing properly.

 

Considering we run 7 rooms with sanako wich could all be sharing the screen via multicast all at the same time this is a huge amount of traffic.

 

Short of seperating each classroom onto a new subnet what options do we have?

Do you have 3com switches? I've seen them die due to multicast traffic. Although a firmware upgrade fixed them.

All ours are Netgear FS526T's with the odd old hub playing non essential out of the way roles.

 

All the rooms that are effected run directly through a Netgear.

I have come to the conclustion that our switches dont support any multicast features. The multicast traffic will just have to be accepted at present untill we restructure our backbone.
