XP Installation Prob

Got myself in a pickle.

 

Got a laptop with Vista Business Edition.

 

Used Killdisk to wipe the harddrive so I could install XP. However, upon completing the initial loading of drivers on windows setup, It tells me no hardrive can be found.

 

I know Killdisk bypasses the logical volume data so I cant have fully destroyed the partition.

 

Any pointers appreciated

You probably need the sata controller drivers where you press F6 before the drivers are loaded at setup.

 

Have a look on the manufacturer's website for them.

 

Would probably be easier to use nLite and build a new XP CD with the drivers slipstreamed.

Look in your Bios there maybe a way to change it to IDE mode. We recently purchased have 72 laptops recently that where like this.

That's what we had to do for our Toshibas - get the Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers and use slipstream it in.

Downloaded the drivers onto USB key and followed the procedure, but the setup doesnt see the USB key as drive A. Looked for a solution & all I got was the following from Microsoft. A connected USB floppy disk drive does not work when you press F6 to install mass storage drivers during the Windows XP installation process

 

So short of bying one of those few compatible USB drives, seems im stumped!!

HP Compaq 6820s. Im giving ur suggestion a try now.

HP sent me xp discs with all drivers included free of charge for our hp 6720s, took 2 days to arrive. Just a thought for an easy alternative.

Ive slipstreamed SP3 & the manufacturers Sata drivers into a new XP installation disk & its going throught the setup now.

 

Im sure it will be fine as long as no activation issues. Its a Volume licensed installation so Im sure it be fine. Happy days.:-)

That is a known issue with slipstreaming SP3,

 

Just stick to SP2 and the SATA drivers and all should be ok.

I've also found you can't use the F6 to install SATA drivers if your installing from a slipstreamed setup disk. You need to have the drivers already slip streamed onto the disk.

Yeah cheers guys.

 

I slipstreamed XP Sp1 to SP2 & integrated the SATA drives into it also. Installed fine.

 

Bloody hell spent all day on this lol
