UNFI Switch / VLANS / 2 Physical Networks

Heya!

 

I've got 2 physical networks set up in our building and I need to get both of them to one particular place in the building using one connection.

 

Currently we just have double of everything and we have unmanaged switches going to this part of the school

 

Using VLANS can I have the two physical networks plug into a single unifi 24 port PoE Switch trunk over a fibre and then separate out at the other end in another 24 port UNIFI switch? I'd also like to be able to user any of the other ports on the UNIFI switches to pick whether I'd like Curric or Admin Network

 

e.g.

 

Switch 1

Port 1 - Curric IN

Port 2 - Admin IN

Port 3-23 - Choice of either

Port 24 - Trunk OUT

Switch 2

Port 1 - Curric OUT

Port 2 - Admin OUT

Port 3-23 - Choice of either

Port 24 Trunk IN

Should be able to, yeah. So long as the other side has an "out" for each VLAN that is untagged then the traffic leaves the switch as if it is connected to a dumb switch.

 

So, you'd have

 

Switch 1 & 2

 

Port 1 - untagged vlan 1001 curric

Port 2 - untagged vlan 1002 admin

Port 24 - tagged vlan 1001,1002

Thank You! I've never played with VLANS before so this is my first step into it before I flatten the whole network and implement VLANS everywhere. Still trying to get my head around tagged / untagged etc.
