TheLion Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Fictitiously, you are approached by a company CEO who wants to be charitable. Their company has done really well this year and ask you what you would like to buy this year. They say try and make it something that is unique and not to buy just new PCs. What will you ask for? - - - Updated - - - I would buy a class size of VR headsets and phones for Augmented reality
hardtailstar Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Firstly if any company came up asking what I'd like to buy this year it would be a separate answer to 'I would like to donate equipment to you, what would you like?'. Secondly it wouldn't be a quick decision. Would have to check with departments, SLT and HT. No point in getting something that's a novelty even if it's free.
TheLion Posted June 9, 2019 Author Posted June 9, 2019 Firstly, it's just a fun fictional question, ignoring the process you have to go through in real life. Secondly, I didn't say novelty.

Yup ^^^ this You could get the best most wonderful useful thingy but it will remain unused without buy-in from the SLT, Depts and teachers in general At my last school we had a wonderful immersive room thingy - 3 walls and the floor have projectors controller by a PC in the back and with detectors on all 4 surfaces - turns all the walls and floor into touch screens I could make the whole thing operate like a tablet using the software that came with it I would bet that it has simply been used as a cinema since I left as no-one else will spend the time to get things sorted out and produce resources even if those resources will last which is a shame as the PTA spent loads of time and effort collecting money for it to be installed The PTA has recently been disbanded - these 2 things may be connected
mavhc Posted June 9, 2019 Posted June 9, 2019 Luckily we have no money now, because we borrowed from the future for our past prosperity and caused global warming, so no more silly projects
Garacesh Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 High-quality, perpetually-licensed, DRM-free teaching resources that we could keep locally on our network, especially regarding PSHE, religion or otherwise such 'sensitive topics'. I can't tell you how many times resources being used for lessons have ended up in YouTube's restricted mode and I've been fielding the flak for it.
Rob_D Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 Probably a couple of new 3d printers, ours are on the way out and I know the technologies teachers are jonesing for replacements.
