Fiber Cable Colour Codes

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to why 50/125 OM3 fiber patch leads are available in both ORANGE and AQUA colours.

It seems in cabs, there is a mixture of both colours and on the cable jackets both say 50/125 OM3 so really don't know what the difference is?

I believe the aqua ones are "laser optimised" from what I was told once, but as most of them are teal now, and SFP modules are mostly LED based, that seems like a poor explanation. OM1 and OM2 used to be orange, then OM3 and OM4 were aqua.

 

There shouldn't, by spec, be orange OM3 leads, but we have loads of them too. Only the ones we've got in the last couple of years have been aqua in fact.

Yes got orange OM3 patches here. As long as they work, I am happy!
