Outlook Notifications

Hi,

 

We are using Outlook Version 1905 (Build 11601.20144 Click-to-run)

 

Everything is controlled by group policy, and I am struggling to control Outlook (Toast?) notifications. We get a grey box on the lower right quadrant of the screen, which shows the message, and details. Is there any way to turn this off through GP?

 

I have all the latest Office templates, installed and visible when creating group policy.

 

Any expertise to share here? I did see a 'presentation mode' which stops notifications, but I really want to stop them from showing up period.

Don’t think there was an option via GPO directly but you can set the Reg key via NewmailDesktopAlerts and disable it like that

2016 definitely has is in the Group Policies, it is under User Settings > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Outlook 2016 > Outlook Options > Advanced Email Options > Desktop Alert

 

Set "Do not display New Mail alert for users" as enabled.

 

You do need to import the Microsoft Office Group Policies for this and not just the windows ones

Thanks, I have this set already. I also set recently 'turn off toast notifications' but I think this is all of them, not just outlook. I also tried a registry setting:

 

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Notifications\Settings\microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps_8wekyb3d8bbwe!microsoft.windowslive.mail

 

Would the 'Quiet Hours' settings be useful here?

I think the issue is that it is not windows live mail, so you made need to look at it a bit further, but you may be on the right track there

 

I know that I have the notifications blocked via GPO and it has stuck (so far)

 

Is it worth running a GPResult on the user, just so you can check that there isn't another policy overriding the one you have put the notification settings into, I have had this in the past.

Thanks, caught the windows live when looking at my own post! Will see what happens with the current setup, I read somewhere that a reboot is required? Have done a GPResult, it is something I do regularly
