link470 Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 (edited) Hey everyone. Just installed SP3 here on a few test machines to see how it goes. First off I'm very impressed at how well the update went on most machines. I had to use a registry tweak to edit all the permissions for Administrator full control to make it install, but I managed to get it installed right after that. The question I have is about Office. I can't seem to install Office 2003 on a machine that has SP3 installed. The office install gets to the point where its JUST about finished, and then displays this box, and after clicking OK, rolls back the installation. Anyone run across this issue? EDIT: I'm attempting the install as local administrator. Windows XP Home machine. EDIT: Appears a patch has fixed it, it suddently works no problem. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/link4scott/Office2003InstallErrorAfterXPSP3Ins.jpg Edited September 3, 2008 by link470
Michael Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 By the sounds of things, you've installed SP3 on top of an existing installation. As for using registry tweaks I think that's your problem. If you're logged on as a local admin, you shouldn't need to tweak anything to get XP SP3 to install in the first place. As for Office 2003, the problem(s) you're experiencing are to do with writing entries into the registry and lack of privileges. I performed a new XP SP3 slipstreamed install and have also installed Office 2003 SP3 with no problems.
kennysarmy Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I've also built up a pc from scratch with an XP SP3 slipstreamed CD and then installed Office 2003 successfully.
