What portable device?

What devices are people buying?

 

I've just bought a Surface Go to play about with and hand around and so far the feedback has been great apart from it's a little too small for all day, every day use. On that basis you would suggest a Surface Pro and that is a possibility.

 

The idea is, a group of staff will have a portable device to assist with their working day.

 

Classrooms have a fixed PC and departments have offices with fixed pcs.

 

Any suggestions?

I have given our deputy head a surface go and he loves it. He doesnt use it as his main computer as he has a desktop in his office and also classroom, but he uses it for taking minutes in meetings etc.

 

He loves it, yes its slightly smaller than a surface pro or a laptop but that was a selling point to us that it made it more portable.

 

Myself and the head have Surface Pro's and equally we use them in the same way.

 

They have both just bought themselves a surface pen alternative of amazon for about £25 and they are like kids at Christmas with them!

 

Considering getting the rest of SLT a surface go as well (4 more).

 

The Head and DH also have a TV on the wall in their office and i got the MS wireless display adapters and they can now easily share data with people whilst in meetings instead of having to crowd round a screen or print it off.

 

The benefit of the surface pro over a go just for size is questionable in my opinion as the cost is nearly double that of a surface go!

 

My science department are currently trying to get me to buy them each a iPad Pro!

If it's portable and to assist rather than replace, surely the Go is plenty big enough? The saving per unit is colossal. I've played with a Go, it now sits purely as a visitor signing in tablet but I was impressed, and it didn't require us to mortgage the school site to pay for it.

I have Surface Go at home, i find it slow and quite annoying to use. I won it though so can't complain to much!

Thank you. I'm temped to get a few USB C hubs and get some users monitor, keyboard and mouse setup on their desks, then the Go and be used a bit more.

We went with refurbished iPad Pro's 12.9 for LT (and IT) and I have to say having used one myself since Christmas, they are brilliant. Large enough so if you are using remote windows desktop it works great as a touch screen device but lightweight and portable enough for the mobile users.

Was that the 64GB model? It's a lot slower than the 128GB model due to Microsoft not putting a proper SSD in it.

We are trending towards the 13 or 14" HP Probooks or elitebooks (depending on what we can get a better deal on). Currently have 6 in situ, and they are now the go to for all devices we replace with a laptop. Currently have 3 different USB C docks in use - HP, Startech and Kensington, for testing purposes.
