I need to replace Lanschool teacher pc with a different machine. Is there any documentation that shows how to do this? Is it possible to do this without reloading Lanschool on all student PCs? Ta for any ideas [emoji3]

Surely the student pcs have their own client with the ID and the new Teacher PC just needs to point at the same ID? Don't see why the students one would need to be reinstalled.

This is one where I really don't know where to start. I've loaded the teacher install on my replacement machine and it can't see anything. I've found a feature called SitchtoTeacher.exe that lets me install teacher prog, then install student prog over it. Then I think I join that to the lanschool network as a student, then I run this program and I become a / the teacher. I'll give it a go and answer back on here.

It should be in the preferences you set the room ID or during the setup, just need to make sure its the same as all the suite PC IDs and it should work.

I've gone into preferences and can see various options but no room ID.

'Teacher Channel' is greyed out on each of teacher machine I'm trying, both have same ID number of 1

Found 'export' and 'import' lanschool profile but that hasn't helped, yet.

Powered up one student PC from existing teacher, "new" teacher sees it.. Looking promising.

Maybe I need to power them all up from existing teacher, so 'new' teacher set them and then has a list .. back shortly..

It's greyed out due to permission, teacher/room ID whatever it is called can only be changed by GP or by running the install.

Run the install again and change the room ID to that of the rest of the PCs. (Unless the suite is on 1 and then you might have another issue!)

This looks good. I was jumping the gun a bit. I've let the new teacher see the devices, then power them all off. Disconnected the existing teacher. 'New' teacher now has equipment list available for 'power on' students and has just powered them all on.

Looking good so far.

Classrooms in LAN School are separated by a 'channel ID' that is designated at install on the both the clients and teacher console. As long as they're all on the same subnet no other configuration is needed to make them work. The teacher console only allows the setting of the channel ID on install unless a separate utility that is included with the software is ran that unlocks the ability to change said ID. If your clients are domain joined then I would highly recommend configuring LAN School via GPO. I used their included GPO templates for the config and push the MSI via AD. Never have to touch the student computers even after reimage.

The Teacher Channel is greyed out to prevent Teachers (non-admins) from changing it; I would consider installing the LanSchool Tech Console which was designed for, among other things, moving Teachers/Students into different groups and administering the LanSchool fleet as a whole.

You can find the MSI installer in the LanSchool zip under the 'Tech Console' subfolder. Here's a couple of videos that might help you out;

Tech Console GPO -

Configuring/Using Tech Console -

Changing Channels/Groupings -

If you're only looking to do this on a single machine that you have local admin rights to, then the Channel registry key under HKLM (as mentioned above) can be changed manually as well.
