Oaktech Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Came in on a Saturday, deployed and configured 8 new switches and 36 new (albeit preconfigured) phones. Can I just profess my love and adoration for the Link Layer Discovery Protocol... "Oh, I need to tag $Uplink to $VLAN but I can't remember what port I plugged it into, oh, wait, Hello LLDP tab, I plugged switch 'A Block, Cab D switch2' into port 41."
mavhc Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Yeah, I upgraded all my switches so they did LLDP as well as CDP. Configured the phones myself though, save soooo much money, plus the last pre configured phones I audited for someone had the admin username and password still as default, wouldn't trust a 3rd party to do anything sane

They also supply our broadband and filtering too and the system is a value-add to it. I can't even do it myself for the price these guys are doing it for! I've done my due diligence and I can't find a downside, there are 25 other schools using the same system with the same supplier, I've spoken to 5 of them, they're all delighted. The central IT from our MAT can't get a quote close to them on price.

Oaktech Posted April 8, 2019 Author Posted April 8, 2019 £7/channel/month with 7000 free minutes per channel is the price to beat so far. It's difficult to check on the price quoted like that as we are buying telephone hardware (70 phones) initial config plus support over a 3 year deal with unlimited calls (to 01,02,03,07 and 0800 and within the fair use policy) for a shade under 8k. After the 3 year deal expires we own the hardware (including the hosted PBX server) and it moves to a rolling £35 per extension per year with support and all calls, and a flat hosting fee of £500. I think that makes our ongoing costs after 3 years £2.91 per extension per month?
SVM Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 For a rough comparison as we have recently installed some phones at 2 schools in the MAT - you can get £6 per channel/month including 5000 minutes per channel. You could install a 70 x handset system in house with onsite PBX server (FreePBX) for around £2500-£3000 one off for hardware and around £70 per month on going for 10 x SIP and 70 x DDI rental. Who did you get the SIP channels from? Turns out there's 0 cost to the phone company for having DDIs. The main reason to have your own server is you need way fewer channels than phones. Don't need to pay for every extension.
nathan Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 £7/channel/month with 7000 free minutes per channel is the price to beat so far. Whos that with? I could only get £10/channel/month with 5000/2000mob minutes although i have a feeling its the same company. What sort of number of channels do you have from them?

mavhc Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 i'm with Gamma directly Looks like i'll be going back to them to have a moan. There's gamma "here's a sip username and password, do it yourself" (£4/month) and gamma "hosted voip pay per extension", think that's called Horizon

mavhc Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 I use the former. Trunk supply only. Interesting, I thought they didn't sell directly, I had to find a reseller.
SVM Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 It was direct with Gamma, we have some schools on less but it was part of a MAT broadband tender so would not be comparable Who did you get the SIP channels from? psumner1992 Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 We are with Gamma as a direct customer for trunks only and it is around £4 per trunk per month with inclusive calls to 01/02/03/07 numbers. Struggled to find any better deal, with around 40 extensions. Pricing was obtained via the CCS framework under RM1045. 1
