Disabling Equipment if moved

I am trying to configure my network so that if somebody unplugs the cat5 cable from a PC and plugs another PC in (swapping machines around) then the PC will not be able to access the network.

 

Can this be done? I'm fed up with staff moving PC's around!!

your switches should be able to do this. Associate the machines MAC address with a particular port on the switch.

It's known as NAC (Network Access Control). You can also use a system called Packetfence (opensource at www.packetfence.org: Home ) to take it to another level so that you know what rogue equipment has been plugged in.

Essentially alot of configuring to do if you're wanting to stop people moving machines from inside the school. Especially if it's going to end up at the same switch.
