Handling conferencing/remote access software and applocker

Hi,

I was interested how others handle the occasional request for webinar/remote support software we occasionally get asked for.

 

It's a reasonably frequent occurrence for us that either teachers are asked to attend a webinar or online training event which requires them to download browser based conferencing software ( we can be made aware of this at the last minute!) .

However, as we've used applocker to stop any executables running from e.g. the users home directories which software normally unpacks to , it becomes a bit of a pain to allow specific executables via our applocker group policy, especially as once one exe is allowed , we find invariably it then runs different one ( sometimes several) so we then have to go between the event logs errors to find what was blocked and group policy edits to get the software working.

 

Is there another obvious way of handling this I'm missing, without allowing anything executable in the users home/downloads directories which could end badly?

Layer 8 issue i'm afraid, these things often have test conferences you can join. Your staff need to test it 24 hours in advance and hand in their laptops for installation.

 

Or create packages and host them in the SCCM software centre.

Ironically since I posted i've been doing battle with Bluejeans. Absolute nightmare. very little change of it running without changing the user to an admin.

Try and allow via publisher name if you can. Saves doing multiple files so long as they use the same Publisher name.
