matt40k Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Hi All, I've been thinking about if it'll be worth running some sort of PowerBI session(s). I've asked a few speakers who have expressed an interest, a few MVPs and even some of the PowerBI team at Microsoft! Obviously this is all dependant on peoples schedules. At a high level, I think there is a desire to make this happen, which leads me on to how much interest actually is there and starting to unpick the details. At moment I'm thinking free, independent (so not just sales pitch), covering getting started and the basics. So things like 1/ Technical side - licensing, auditing, security 2/ ETL side - actually getting the data into PowerBI, mashing it up into the right format for reporting - adding measures \ calcs 3/ Building reports \ dashboards - using custom visuals, colour schemes, measures\KPI Would this squish into 1 day work for people (assuming food is provided)? Or spread over a period of time? Would it be easier to get time off outside of work time? Would Saturday be better then a weekday? Location wise - big central city? Remote? multiple (if possible)? Is it worth joining up with ADME (Association of Data Managers) events or such? Thoughts? 3
robyholmes Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Ideally remote and spread over multiple sessions would work better for me. 1
bobsmith Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Remote would work better - getting time out of school is an absolute nightmare. 1
matt40k Posted March 12, 2019 Author Posted March 12, 2019 We have an association??? Yup, ANME has created another group - https://www.adme-portal.co.uk/signup/ 2
matt40k Posted March 12, 2019 Author Posted March 12, 2019 If it's remote - are folks gonna get time away from the office to interact? If so, what sort of time?
robyholmes Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 If it's remote - are folks gonna get time away from the office to interact? If so, what sort of time? I'd suggest trying to do multiple afternoon sessions is possible. It means all the 'It needs to be done today' jobs can be got out the way in the morning. 1
CAM Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Yup, ANME has created another group - https://www.adme-portal.co.uk/signup/ Thanks. Just applied! 2
noelmm Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 As already said I think remote sessions would be better as that would be easier for many of us to take part. Also if the remote sessions could be recorded and the recordings made available so we can watch them back at a later date that would be great. 1
gordonbarclay Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 That sounds like a good idea. Our firewall stops us viewing live webinars.
vikpaw Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 One part of the overall training would make a good session for the next EDIT conference. 1
matt40k Posted March 12, 2019 Author Posted March 12, 2019 That sounds like a good idea. Our firewall stops us viewing live webinars. Really? What's the logic behind that? That would make interacting a bit harder.
CyBeRkId2002 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 How’s the planning of this coming along Matt? I love the idea in any format really. We are close to our go-live date and having had a bit of a play around with BI (made some pretty basic behaviour dashboards using some static information exported from SIMs) I cant wait to get started really getting to grips with what it can do! Obviously having actionable outcomes is the main goal, but knowing how to use to use the tools will give a better understanding of what is possible.
matt40k Posted April 8, 2019 Author Posted April 8, 2019 Slowing coming together, just waiting for a few people to get back to me then I can get booking things in. Exciting times!
Ecclesbury Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 Bit late to this, but just to say that I'd be very interested. Also, how did I know about ANME??? 1
matt40k Posted April 23, 2019 Author Posted April 23, 2019 Looking at 1st May @ 2pm for the first webinar, just trying to work out the last few details then I can open sign up. (Anyone figured out how to fit more hours in the day?) 3
ICTLady Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 Just seen this - I've downloaded and have been exploring some basics so would be really interested in a webinar 1
free780 Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 There is an AzureAD power bi app that's quite interesting.
matt40k Posted April 23, 2019 Author Posted April 23, 2019 There is an AzureAD power bi app that's quite interesting. Are you taking about the Azure usage reports? --> https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-connect-azure-consumption-insights EDIT: More likely this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/reports-monitoring/howto-power-bi-content-pack
Taylor1 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Hi, just wondered if this is still on for today and if so how do I sign up?
Taylor1 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 No problem I'm really keen to attend the webinar and was just worried in case I'd missed any post about sign up.
