[windows software] OVS-ES Agreement?

A school has contacted me to ask if there is a way around getting an OVS Agreement as they do not want to be paying for Office & Windows every year.

 

The school currently uses Office365 - do they still need to pay for Office licenses?

 

What is the best way to license Server 2012 R2 without an OVS agreement?

 

Is there a way for the School to pay for a one off "Lifetime" subscription to Office or Windows?

Yes they do still need to pay unless they use 365 online exclusively and not installed apps.

You can buy a perpetual license of Windows and Office, but when you need to upgrade them, you'll need to buy a whole new license for Windows and Office for each machine.

Depends on the amount of FTE and/or workstations which works out more cost effective.

There are ways around it, mostly involving doing without Windows and Office on your workstations. Your Office365 license will drop back to A1 instead of A3 (if you have that set up), so you'll lose installable versions of Office for staff and students. You can also buy perpetual licenses for Windows and Office - but this is expensive and complete folly IMO - versions of both move fast and you're locked into Pro instead of Edu. You should still get continuous updates to 10, but as MS have/are moving very much to SaaS they want subscriptions rolling in and won't make this easy.
