Currently looking at redesigning an IT suite to increase the number of computers from 22 to 32.

I can cost most things, but roughly, what sort of ball park figure would the electrical work come to?

2 x 4.8 metre islands (12 doubles on each)

1 x 6.4m side wall ( 8 doubles)

Last I didnt anything like this it was approx £40 a socket.

Cheers and sorry for the vagueness :D

It'll depend on the state and capacity of the distribution board. Is it RCD protected for example.

We have saved money here by installing trunking ourselves along side the joiner. Eletricians time should be on what he's good at, not cutting and dado fixing trunking.

After looking at this, the head asked me to get a company in to look at redesigning the room!

So - does anyone have any recommendations on companies that will design, install benching and electrics etc

Cheers

In my experience when it comes to IT suites Staff seem to complain about islands, complain about benching, complain about "not being able to see the students screens", complain about the students being too close together.... etc

Unless they have something like a slowly rotating desk in the middle of the IT suite that goes 360 degrees during the course of the lesson that covers all the computers , doesn't it just come down to classroom management techniques and classroom management?

I just think they like to complain.

Don't you need any data points with your room redesign?

For a brand new IT room I would expect to pay between 2K and 6K depending on requirements

  • Number of electrical sockets
  • Number of data outlets
  • New/extra trunking and trunking type
  • Modifications to the distribution board
  • New electrical ring
  • Distance from data cabinet
  • Time scale
