mukz Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 @MS2011 once you do setup hybrid what is ur end goal? To have the users in the cloud? Or mixture of both? 1
3s-gtech Posted May 7, 2019 Posted May 7, 2019 Hardware - you can virtualise Exchange happily. Needs RAM aplenty (2019 even moreso) and it’s best to put the volumes for db and logs separate to the OS (I have them on different arrays). As for migration process, there are some superb guides online. You basically build the new one, set it up and add to your domain - you can then use the web interface to work through much of the process such as mailbox migration. Once finished, the old server is decommissioned and removed from the domain. 1

3s-gtech Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 4 virtual processors, 16GB RAM, DAS, 1500 mailboxes. For Exchange 2019 128GB is the minimum recommended for a mailbox server! https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/plan-and-deploy/system-requirements?view=exchserver-2019 1

3s-gtech Posted May 8, 2019 Posted May 8, 2019 No, no intention of doing so. Will probably go Exchange online next.

MS2011 Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 Dear all Exchange 2016 migration - DL 380 server, 2x cpu, 64 Gb ram. 2x 480 Ssd’s for OS I have 1800 mailboxes, do need to create two separate raids for DB and long files? 15 k SAs drives or Ssd’s ? Raid 10 ? Thanks MS
3s-gtech Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 If you can totally separate the DB and log files it's better, they certainly want to be on separate partitions/VHDs if not physical RAID arrays. Are you installing Exchange on the bare metal? I'd recommend against this due to the constrictions it can impose over time - when my bare-metal Exchange 2013 server died (as in, wouldn't even power on) I had a near heart-attack and had to sub in a compatible replacement that the OS would boot on. Having it as a VM would simplify that. Performance is adequate on 10k SAS - I don't have issues there. Again, SSD will be better. 1
