Getting Public Address System to another building

Hi,

 

We have a public address system in our academy. It works well except there is a separate sixth form building that it isn't connect to. Hence they miss all the announcements.

 

The only link between the buildings is a Fibre Optic Cable used for the network.

 

If there was spare CAT5 we could use an audio extender, but as we only have the used fibre, so the solution would have to be IP based.

 

Is anyone aware of a device that will basically transfer an analogue audio input over the network, and the convert back to analogue at the other end. Really would like two simple boxes, but happy to consider a 'software on a laptop' type solution if necessary.

 

I've been looking but struggling to find anything that can do this that isn't several thousand pounds and designed for professional audio.

You need to be looking at Dante. Their AVIO adapters cost around £150 each and will sit on a network quite happily....

Thanks very much. That looks like what I want. Just want to check though, is some sort of control device or software needed on the network to make it work or are these entirely standalone? Thanks.

You'll need to download Dante controller to make the associations - it's not difficult. Dante even offer training to show you how to use the software, all free.
