WiFi Regulations/ Standards from DfE

Good Afternoon people

 

We have a Wireless network but we are not sure how secure it is due to having no documentation from the last IT guy, it just worked so no-one queried it.

 

Is there any minimum regulations that the DfE require or can we set it up the most secure we can (proabably call in WiFi specilaist for this) as not planning to replace the equipment if we can help it.

 

Note - no suggestions on equipment manufacturers yet as what we have may be sufficient just may need re-configuring, but if not I know I will get the normal responses of Ubiquiti / Ruckus / Meraki ... answers when I ask for it.

There's no regulations as such but the two things to bear in mind other than general performance is security and tracking; whilst obviously a decent WPA2 password is sufficient for general use you'll also want to know who's signed in on any device that isn't on your network, so RADIUS, captive portals for authentication etc.

I had someone last week complain that they couldn't get their VPN to connect on the guest wireless. Well you know what - tough! We don't have to provide a guest wireless, if you want a guaranteed connection bring your own 4G hotspot then or get your own company to sort it out e.g. Can I complain that BMW wouldn't fix my Ford car? Hi elsiegee40 was my comment on the post removed? I commented as it was due to security i.e. having wifi access with everybody's VPN IMHO is a security risk and pertinent to the topic being discussed?

Good Morning @synaesthesia for your comment and I would like to say thank you to @mhaddock for yours but as I did not get to read it before it was taken away. I would have liked to have seen your comment about VPN as this does affect us too.
