Make Life Easier! Local AD > Office 365 > G-Suite

Hi All,

 

I am looking to make things a lot easier for both myself and staff, I'm aiming to setup some form of automated account creation and SSO.

 

We currently have a local AD (domain.local), Office 365 for email/SharePoint/office (domain.co.uk) and G-Suite for google apps (domain.co.uk).

I'm looking if its possible to create a user in my local AD which then creates the O365 and G-Suite accounts ideally with password sync and eventually SSO.

 

We don't at present use AAD or ADFS all accounts are created manually/CSV.

 

Has anyone accomplished this already?

Yes. We use Azure AD Connect to sync Local to Office 365. We then have tied G-Suite to our O365 SSO so that Google services actual are logged into via the Microsoft prompt. We used to have the GAPS or GADS running but we found it was adding a layer of complexity that didn't help.

I tied to use ad connect but as i have a .local domain it threw a wobbly. additionally the usernames in my local ad are different from o365 as we chances the naming convention.

That's not an issue if you have .local, you just have to create an alternative UPN suffix in your Active Directory (very simple) then assign that to your users instead of the .local. Our domain is a XXX.Internal, but we just added our fqdn as the suffix and the e-mail address the user would have and away it went.

 

Some people find that using the proxyAddresses also gets round the issue of usernames not matching the same naming convention as the e-mail address

I would solve those issues as they will cause you issues all over the place.
