We are a bit in a pickle. For some reason Windows 10 loose/change XML file type association with MS office - it should be on the list as XML Editor which is part of office 2010. ON some PCs it just goes to Dreamweaver, and whatever we do it doesn't change.

We have tried usual change , command line command, registry change. Still nothing

The main problem is Sims and pupils linked documents, that are XMLs. On working computer they just open directly from sims in MS Word. On PCs that go wrong it wants to open it in Dreamweaver. Uninstalling dreamweaver, doesn't solve it. Repairing MS office doesn't solve it, removing profile from affected PC, doesn't solve it - we have local profiles and problem affects all users on this computer.

Has anyone seen this happening? Maybe have a solution or an advice.

We are on Windows 10 1806, Office 2010 and latest Sims version.

The problem is a broken DSIM in 1803. Some updates cause DSIM to run and that fluffs the XML association.

Here is the solution, you will need to adapt the path for Office2010

Go to Regedit:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xmlfile\shell\Open\command]

Change the value of (Default) to

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Root\VFS\ProgramFilesCommonX64\Microsoft Shared\Office16\MSOXMLED.EXE" /verb open "%1"

Delete "DelegateExecute"="{17FE9752-0B5A-4665-84CD-569794602F5C}" (if present)

Reboot and test.

Then roll it out via GPP.

This is happening for us again, xml files open in Internet Explorer instead of the appropriate Office App. The original fix is in place, and reinstalling office doesn't cure it. Anyone else had a resurgence of this one?

This is really problematic since reports from SIMS linked documents are XML.

A quick and dirty work around is to associate the xml with word on a per user basis but that isn't great.

Been seeing this more and more since January...

paging @Koldov

::edit:: -- wait a moment. disabling the fix, the delagateexecute key reappears and xml associations start to work again (on one computer).
