Powerpoint 2016 unable to embed youtube video as standard user

Anyone else had this/resolved it?

 

It allows you to insert the video, but when trying to play it fails.

 

But works fine in a browser?

 

Any help is appreciated.

Title suggests this is specific to Standard users, so are you suggesting that it works fine when logging in with a more privileged user?

No, this feature doesn’t work at all for our standard users. Doesn’t even work properly for me as an admin - I have to embed the iframe from the embed link.

Do you have YouTube DNS-based content restrictions setup on your network?

 

If so, you have to sign into your G Suite account in Internet Explorer for embedded videos to play in PowerPoint. At least that's what I have found.

Thanks for the headsup but no we dont, I think I spotted the cause.

 

In our policy we have trusted zones set up, if we turn this off the issue goes away.

 

Weird. I am going to run wire shark and see what exactly it is trying to go to.

Turns out it was protected mode in IE 9 +
