plexer Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 If you have any switches in the 4100 series i.e 4104gl 4108gl then make sure you have the latest firmware on them which is G.07.107 I just found out today that depending on the version of java you have installed that when you connect with a web browser it can crash the switch. Ben 1
plexer Posted May 1, 2008 Author Posted May 1, 2008 Yes it can sorry should have said that as it is listed in the summary for the firmware. Ben
Ric_ Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 The question is how to check the firmware version without the possibility of crashing the switch! (Unless I get up and actually go to them with a serial cable!)
Geoff Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 You can also verify the firmware version over snmp. root@goliath:~# snmpwalk -Os -c public -v 1 10.73.26.200 sysDescr sysDescr.0 = STRING: ProCurve J8770A Switch 4204vl, revision L.11.08, ROM L.10.02 (/sw/code/build/rmm(rm11))
plexer Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 Yeah telnet is what I did as well as serial console. Ben
DMcCoy Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 fyi on various other procruves the latest firmware breaks snmp access from PCM. Sigh
mrbios Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 any firmware newer than something like G.07_50 is a complete disaster for us, for some reason HP have disabled the use of IP routing at the same time as port trunking on this switch in newer firmwares
Andi Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Also you need to be aware that upgrading the firmware past a certain point on this series of switches disables the use of 3rd party GBICs. We have some Finisar GBICs in our switch that were bought before the current support team all worked here, and as such we've never dared upgrade the firmware.
mickeyh080 Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Is this specific to the HP 4100 range only ? We have a rather obsolete HP4000m with 64 ports in use. I'm planning on replacing once funds permit as we do have issues in the building it supplies that is in-addition to one of the fans failing every now and then.
AngryTechnician Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 in-addition to one of the fans failing every now and then. You know all ProCurve kit has a lifetime warranty, right? RMA that badboy!
mickeyh080 Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Yes have sucessfully used the support on more than one occasion, but for fans it just seems easy to remove it degunk, lube it and reinstall. Job done in half an hour. Its the down time for the clients that causes the headache. You know all ProCurve kit has a lifetime warranty, right? RMA that badboy!
DarrenG Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Does carrying out your own work on the fans void the lifetime warranty or is it not an issue?
mrbios Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Holy old thread revival batman! I'd imagine it would void the warranty doing any work on it yourself unless you can hide the fact you did it. Try contacting HP via the my.procurve.com site, I've got a spare 8206zl sat on my desk at the moment ready to swap out tomorrow as they couldn't think of how to fix an issue with our current one in the rack, so they just sent this out free of charge and asked me to send the other one back in the same packaging (again for free, postage label for returns is just sat under the original postage label) when i can 1
fiberoptics Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 thanks,it is a useful warning,at the same time,i will more concern about whether the other series of HP switches have this situation too.i will keep concerning on the new discovery.
