Cost of Installing Power sockets at home

I`m looking at getting a few power sockets installed at home. Just wondering what the going rate Electricians would charge for installation of these.

It gets murky with power sockets. If you're 'a competent person' you can install them yourself, or get a competent DIY electrician to do so. However, it then always pays for these to be tested - and this is where electricians come in as they can certify the works - which may be essential when selling. I'm guessing you're not confident in doing it yourself. Rates vary considerably, and getting a spark in for small jobs is usually quite difficult, so expect an elevated labour charge - upwards of £50 per hour (scaling down after one hour) plus equipment. Confident on doing it myself its just, by doing it yourself, and if these sockets were to cause a fire, the house insurance wouldn't cover this as they wont be certified.

Yes I thought it might be upwards of £50. The sockets will be very easy to install as they will be in the garage a meter away from the DB.

"Certified"? Part P* doesn't necessarily preclude adding a socket. Not kitchens, garages or other special locations. Not new circuits.

Run the cable and sockets yourself, then get a sparky to connect to the consumer unit. They can test it at the same time.

Sorry when I say "Certified" I mean verified by an electrician. Which is where the cost will be. Thats if they will verify someone elses work?

That should be music to their ears, as no chasing great chunks out of walls etc. Having rewired my house myself, then got it checked, professionally installed CU, and signed off with a cert, I know it can be ridiculous paying the labour rate for such a simple job but if it gives you peace of mind it's probably worth it.

What electricians do you use in school? normally find them very helpful and will come out for a small fee, got to be worth the ask especially if just a connection to the CU..
