Corsair H55 CPU Cooler - MSI B350 Gaming Plus MB

Hi All

 

Hoping one of you can help as I've never messed around with CPU coolers before they've always just worked.

 

So I installed my old H55 on my rig tonight after getting the correct bracket. All has gone well although when starting my computer the fan and pump are at full speed all of the time. I noticed that the CPU Fan and Pump where set to "PWM" which I changed to DC as both are only 3 pin connectors not 4.

 

As soon as I do this with "Smart Fan Control" ticked on the BIOS default settings the pump and CPU fan turn off completely. I'm running it now by using DC setting but having to keep the "Smart fan control" un-ticked as to keep the fan and pump at full settings to cool the CPU as otherwise it's dead as a dodo!!

 

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I tried setting the fan curve but no matter what I did I couldn't get the CPU or pump to spin up without disabling the Smart control all together or telling the BIOS to use Full Speed Fan?

 

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it, it's doing my ears in!!!

Ok... going to ask a daft question here... but it sounds like there is no feedback from your cooling system... so you are plugging your cooler into the CPU fan socket on the motherboard right?

 

It might be worth taking pictures of your system layout so we can assess.

Yeah, the fan to the radiator is plugged into the CPU Fan Header and the Pump is plugged into CPU Pump header? It's driving me insane although I have checked online with other MSI motherboards and they seem to complain that the Voltage regulator isn't working when you switch fan mode to DC so maybe my board has the same issues which have just never got fixed?

 

I'm on the latest BIOS version!

if the pump was operating whilst the incorrect PWM mode was selected then I'd leave it.

They're both definitely DC, only the 3pin rather than the 4pin type

I just got a Corsair H45 and against logic, the instructions for that say to connect the pump to the CPU Fan header and the Radiator fan to the System Fan header.

Tried that still the same result, Fan is spinning full RPM 24/7
