How do you guys handle students signing in late and leaving early?

Previously, we've had sheets which the students fill in, but in this world of GDPR we need something with better privacy. We bought one of https://www.securitysafetyproducts.co.uk/security/visitor-books/gdpr-compliant-confidential-school-sign-in-sign-out-book.php but we have two problems with it - firstly, it is difficult to quickly tell whether a particular student has signed in (you have to open the sealed edge and that makes the whole page useless), and secondly it would cost us over £500/year to use these books.

We just have a book where they sign their name with date and time.

They have to give reasons to the attendance/6th form pastoral team who then record it in SIMS.

So all the other students and staff see is the name, date and time.

InVentry here. Pastoral staff then review the list sign-ins and sign-outs through the course of the day from their own offices, updating SIMS accordingly. Prior to that, it was a paper based system, but that involved a lot of faff as we have two receptions and the pastoral offices are dotted around the site. I don't think they used anything special, just homemade paper slips to fill in and submit at reception.

We also have a sixth form, who never seemed to use the signing in/out book as instructed. Now that they have cards to scan, they do (although that's largely down to the fact that an electronic system allows staff to monitor things).
