Any good ISP company recommendations?

Hi all

 

I’ve been asked to bid for some proposals for an internet line with an eye on going into a Trust Partnership for primary schools.

 

We are currently running 200mb with 1 Gb bearer off Virgin media business, with a primary school literally next door we can connect a fibre cable to, if planning permissions allow.

we're here of course and specialise in multi academy trusts. We've well over 1,000 schools using our service nationwide and our service can include education specific filtering and security.

 

If you're just the two schools and you're a stones throw away then putting in your own fibre cable is a great idea and will reduce your costs. Alternatively if you can't do that then we could install a BT or Virgin point to point fibre line which can then piggyback from the main leased line so you can share your Internet connection.

For high speed inter-site connectivity for trusts I’d recommend virtue technologies.

We have a leased line at 1 site and EoFTTC at 2 others and get 7ms ping times between sites [emoji106]

My experience of various ISPs since leaving our local "grid":

Schools broadband - as an internet connection good, but for other services our experience wasn't great unfortunately. Put me off hosted services.

Voicehost - got recommended this company by a local supplier while i was looking for quotes, they were good and reliable, knowledgeable support staff, although i had a SIP based problem that they were never able to fully resolve (ironic seeing as they're called voicehost) which led me to now renewing with them

Vaioni - Good company, good support, prices were good. Interestingly their techs told me they wouldn't setup our mikrotik router the same way we had it with voicehost due to a limitation that they say can cause problems (funnily enough, i suspect that's what was causing our previous SIP issues)

Novatech - Just got a 300mb connection out with them last year, their support is good and very quick to respond to any issues (albeit only thing i've asked for so far is some usage graphs)...only drawback being that they supply some stupidly out of date old cisco routers that are huge rather than giving us anything modern. That said, it's done its job better than the three previous suppliers that gave us mikrotik routers. Zero issues with them so far which is nice.
