Nutrition Analysis Software

I have been asked to look into Nutrition Analysis Software.

 

Found 3 contenders so far:

 

Nutmeg

 

Diet Sure

 

Food for PC

 

Have any of you guys used these.

 

Looking for advise and recommendations.

We use Food for a PC. All I did was pop the software (Excel spreadsheets and macros I think) up onto our shared resource area and the students just open the spreadsheet and off they go. The instructions are in word format so there is no problems there either.

I don't get involved in it much so it must be reasonably robust

I find Food for a PC a bit lacking, having a GCSE in Home Economics and having a reletive thats a Teacher of the subject, we felt it was ok, but out of date easily and not very helpful for those that are not so quick on the spreasheet way or things like teaspoons, litres etc into grams.

 

I have used Food in Focus which was really really nice and a good product, well worth the looking into as well as the others you have said.

We use Nutrients. Used to come as a straight application - just got v2, which is an MSI. They will prepare it to your exact specifications though, so no messing around with ORCA to put it in the right start menu group.

I'm surprised there are not more web-based apps that do this.

I did find OSS - with a nice java webstart to test: CRON-o-Meter

This software is going to be used in the Kitchen to for the cooks to use.

If you go to the School Food Trust website they have independent reviews of 6 Analysis software packages.

 

These have been printed out and passed to the Kitchen.

Sorry to hijack this old thread, but for schools looking to implement a nutritional analysis package for use in their catering department, it might be worth looking at H-Port.

 

It is one of the packages evaluated by the School Food Trust and the review is quite favourable. The package is also web-based, remotely-hosted and comparatively very cheap to buy and renew.

 

I was honestly expecting it to be cheap rubbish after the other packages we looked at, but the interface is very slick and web2.0 without being confusing or overly showy. Information is presented clearly and the data entry, despite being very lengthy for a school with huge menus like ours, is about as efficient as we could have hoped for.

 

If you are looking to buy it, you may find that it is also marketed as HANDS in some areas, but the product is essentially identical.
