Micro bit + SLR

I'd like to use a micro bit to trigger my Canon 1000D SLR. Can I use the micro bit to close the circuit like a push to make switch would do, or can I only do it by pushing 3V down the wire and would that damage the camera? Or is the voltage coming out the remote shutter port likely to damage the micro bit? I don't know what sort of voltage goes through the remote shutter socket.

You can power a relay via the Microbit, so could do it safely that way (the Microbit triggers the relay which just closes the circuit).

Can the microbit directly drive a relay? I'm not sure that a relay coil wouldn't be too much current for the output pin.

 

It might be better to use a transistor or a MOSFET to close the circuit instead. Would be quicker responding and you will only want to close the circuit very briefly otherwise the camera may take several shots.

Well, as you can buy Microbit relays I’d imagine so. The ones I’ve seen will then run up to 16v/2A so fairly meaty output.
