Big corporation cocks up - customers suffer. Not exactly headlines these days, just becoming the norm! I had very poor customer service from O2 a few years ago but I'm in no doubt they're better/worse than any of the other big telcos.

And those screaming for compensation just because they had a day of inconvenience...with no real monetary loss.

Housemate works for Tesco Mobile, he says the amount of people phoning up demanding compensation because their phone service was critical to their business, etc etc. He was on lates yesterday so he didn't start until 11:00 and apparently the queue was >200 before his shift even started.

Apparently the bosses gave everyone permission/instruction to point out the parts of the contract that say service is cannot be guaranteed, may be outages, etc.

Also he had fun with the 'critical business' callers by asking them why they hadn't opened a business account (which comes with SLA's etc) and he'd be happy to have the business division call them back.. Unsurprisingly they had no takers

£100,000,000!!!

O2 'to seek millions' in damages over data outage

Mobile operator O2 is understood to be seeking millions in damages from supplier Ericsson after last week's day-long data network collapse.

The total bill could be up to £100m, according to The Telegraph.

O2 smartphone users were unable to use their mobile phone data last Thursday. Ericsson blamed expired software licences for the problem.

Both firms have apologised for the issue and O2 has already set out how it plans to compensate customers.

Customers with a monthly subscription will be refunded the cost of two days' service by the end of January.

Pay As You Go customers will get 10% extra when they top up their phone in the new year or 10% off when they buy data for mobile broadband devices.

^ They really should have automated the certificate renewal to prevent it happening in the first place!

Well they need to compensate the poor shareholders who have lost so much over this debacle.

To be fair a lot of share holders are normal every day people who will suffer due to something out of their control.

Quite enjoyed how Giffgaff have handled it for their end users; either take compensation for yourself in airtime credit or donate it to charity. Latter done instantly and I imagine (or hope!) the majority do the same. Good way to make something positive from such a problem.
