Touch panel demo - ideas?

We've managed to get a demo 75" 4k touch panel with Android on it - which I've decided to borrow to coincide with our open evenings in January.

 

I'm thinking of the best use to make of this - has anyone got any good practice / ideas of what they use theirs for? I'm thinking some sort of digital portfolio for our Art department, or pupil work, but open to ideas.

It's a touch panel, so why not show that off? setup a whiteboard app and get the art dept to make a little welcome sign, then invite visitors to scrawl a little message or question or something on it?

 

Otherwise it may as well be a TV...

Wouldn't you be better of actually mounting it in a classroom for the teachers to use/test to see if it positively affects teaching and learning, rather than using it as a glorified TV in the odd open evening?

Yes, you do have a perfectly valid point - however the board is only available to us to test for a week. Each classroom currently has an interactive whiteboard already in place.

 

My plan is to use it for the open evenings in an open area of the school to a: see for my own benefit exactly what we can do with it, and b: encourage teachers passing by to see it in operation - in my opinion this is more beneficial than hiding it in one classroom where realistically it may not be used.

We've got six similar sized touch screens and while teacher are wowed with what they can do, they haven't progressed beyond a quick play. They do use them daily, but basically as a replacement for their old interactive whiteboard, and most didn't even bother with the interactive features of that. So basically, we've gone from an expensive projector screen, to a more expensive projector screen, albeit with a far superior picture.

 

I've spoken to the teachers who have them and they are keen to do more, but they say they have powerpoints built up over many years, and they don't want to abandon them (not that we are suggesting they are). Another factor stopping teachers getting more use out of them is the software that runs on the PC with ours - it lets you write on the board in the same way as an iwb. We had licences to run iwb on as many PCs as we wanted, and a few teachers would prepare lessons using it, in their office. With the touch screens, we only have licences for the PCs where the screen is connected, and even if we could load it on an office PC, it is difficult to drive without a touch screen.

We have one of these, I plugged in a laptop running Minecraft education and the pupils used it like a giant ipad! (it goes in to touch control mode!) 6 kids trying to play as 1 person..

Don't know about yours, but on ours if the Powerpoints are uploaded to Google Drive, when the users logs into their drive on the Interactive Screen and opens the Powerpoint it plays on the board. So - no need to abandon their Powerpoints.
