Youtube Restricted Mode - Exa Networks

Morning all,

 

Has anyone managed to get Youtube Restricted Mode working on an Exa connection? I have followed multiple guides on how to do this using A Records / DNames and whilst it seems that the correct DNS settings are being picked up nothing is being restricted. I am guessing this is to do with the transparent proxy, but just wanted to check that no-one has managed to get this working and it is our connection?

Same as everywhere else, it's just done via DNS on your local DNS server, recently switched to Exa, nothing changed wrt youtube restricted via dns

That is strange then! A few questions if you don't mind...

 

Is your DNS windows based? If so, any chance you could send us a screenshot of the config?

Are you using ad.quantum.exa-networks.co.uk as your proxy?

 

It does not matter what we put in, we absolutely cannot get it to load the restricted mode.

We use Exa's Surfprotect Quantum and so use the same proxy setting as you. We don't use YouTube restricted mode though, we simply block youtube for all pupils and only allow it for staff. This is done based on the OU of the user.

Yeah, that is what we have done as a temporary measure ... but ideally would like them to have access to the restricted mode (we use HegartyMaths which is reliant on it).

Hi all,

 

Done all of that and definitely have exactly the same config as above! Whats more, if I ping http://www.youtube.com I get this response so I know that it is working, but I still get unrestricted youtube!

It sounds like the proxy uses its own DNS servers rather than your internal servers. I’d speak to Exa and find out from them.

Followed all of those guides to the letter and definitely does not work. Have also tried at another site we manage who have exa and it does not work their either.

@mavhc do you use Quantum Filtering or the basic surfprotect?

Quantum, but it shouldn't matter AIUI
