chrbb Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I've set the 'hide recycle' bin in gpo and have staff moaning! Does anyone else hide it?
Joanne Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 we don't have it here... (CC3) They have to come and ask us to restore stuff from backup. tell them not to delete anything unless they are 100% sure they don't need it.
elsiegee40 Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 We don't hide it here, but I wish I could forcibly empty it!
Michael Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I remove it for staff and pupil users only. Senior users get to keep their bins How nice of me
Pete10141748 Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 We hide it here for everyone except Admin staff. No complaints so far, staff know that once something is gone its gone so they have got into the habit of saving things!
timbo343 Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 We hide it here for everyone except Admin staff. No complaints so far, staff know that once something is gone its gone so they have got into the habit of saving things! Same here.
button_ripple Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 hidden for pupils, lowered to 1% for staff and admin here!
SpuffMonkey Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 We've just got rid of it - and cleared 6Gb of disk space - nobody seems to have noticed!
Dafty Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 We are the same as Pete10141748. Staff and students know that once its been deleted, then its gone.
TheScarfedOne Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Hidden here too - as pretty much useless. Deleting from their MyDocs (mapped drive to server) doesnt bin it to there anyway. Staff and Students have got used to coming and seeing us and asking nicely for us to restore it...
FN-GM Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 we don't have it here... (CC3) They have to come and ask us to restore stuff from backup. tell them not to delete anything unless they are 100% sure they don't need it. Do you not use shadow copy?
elsiegee40 Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Do you not use shadow copy? Don't know about Joanne, but Shadow Copy is my little secret. I don't advertise its existance. It's very handy to rescue stuff that's been deleted by accident or to prove that a child didn't save it at the end of a lesson, but I don't want them to become reliant on Shadow... I'd rather they were careful in the first place.
FN-GM Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 oh yer obviously but she says she restores files from the backups.
acrobson Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Ah....good old shadow copy. Always saves the day....it saves so much time on trailing through back up exec, naturally i keep back up exec to recover major stuff from ages ago. But shadow is the boyo!
Jobos Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 We hide the bin and empty it at logoff using EmptyRecycleBin.exe from here Optimum X Download Page 1
elsiegee40 Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Thanks for that link Jobos... that's one for tomorrow!
